Minnowa

64 square kilometres of handcrafted American Midwest: places, landscape and the story behind RHAB-14.

Minnowa is a fictional region in the American heartland, somewhere between Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin: farmland, small towns, forests, swamps, military sites. Everything is built by hand, nothing is procedurally generated.

The studio wants every building to be enterable. In a planned large city with skyscrapers, at least the ground floors should be accessible. Loot is context-based: a truck holds what its driver might have lost.

The map is built for summer. Seasons are planned for later, severe weather such as storms is “far down the roadmap”.

Background

RHAB-14

ARDEM stands for Artificial Demography: a bioweapon project by influential people meant to solve overpopulation. The RHAB-14 virus was tailored to specific regions, but it mutated, spread far wider than planned and brought down civilisation within weeks.

The infected are called “the restless”. There is no story campaign and no quests. The world tells the story itself, for example a bus-stop poster urging people to get vaccinated against the virus.
